US businesses expected to expand in Asia pre-SARS

SINGAPORE?As many as three-fourths OF US businesses in a Gallup poll is expected to expand in Asia this year, a sign of optimism in the world?s fastest-growing region before a virus outbreak clouded the outlook.

The survey of members of American chambers of commerce in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam between February 18 and March 11 showed 70 percent of executives at US companies expected Asia?s share of their sales to rise…
