The SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) outbreak last year cost the Philippines an estimated $600 million (roughly P33 billion) in lost revenues.
But despite the huge losses, the Philippines was actually one of two countries in Asia that were least affected by the epidemic, according to Senator Loren Legarda, citing an Asian Development Bank report.
The report said neighbors in the region, except Vietnam, suffered much bigger losses.
